La Dorette Winding Its Way, 2021 is a large-scale iPad print by David Hockney made from eight joined digital paintings on paper. It follows the quiet curve of the River Dorette through the Normandy countryside, where bright green fields, orchards and clusters of trees unfold under an expansive sky. Hockney’s digital strokes create sharp contrasts in tone and texture, turning a rural path of water into a rhythmic, flowing composition.

Produced between 18th - 27th June, this work forms part of Hockney’s celebrated iPad series documenting the landscape immediately surrounding his home. Working directly from life, he captures shifting light and seasonal change with colour that feels both observational and vividly heightened. Reflecting on his digital practice, he has noted that the iPad allows him to “draw without any fuss, just as fast as I can look,” a quality that defines the immediacy of this scene.
